Initial Sketches and Research

I have chosen football for several simple reasons, it has two obvious opposing teams, it has more than enough available players and teams for stats and information i can use, it has a wide following so it is available on several channels which all have different layouts and priorities on information which makes it ideal for research purposes and most of all, it has a very dedicated audience which means its a very viewer orientated spectator sport, which i think will really motivate what graphic layouts and information i could use. It seems to be the most energetic and interesting out of the available sports for this project.
Im hoping with all the available information, different broadcasting channels and enthusiastic viewers, this could be the most worth while and fast paced choice with more creative options.

I first did my research on the sport, gathered the basic game play and what all information would be important if you were a spectator. I then researched the popular channels football is broadcasted on.
RTE, SKY, UTV, ITV and BBC seem to be the popular local stations to view the sport on, so i watched a few matches and match clips and still images like the ones bellow, and gathered how the current broadcasting channels display their information.

Ive gathered what is considered the most relevant information before during and after game play, what branding is shown and advertised, Ive also begun researching what isnt shown and why.

This has lead me to brainstorming what all i do and dont want to include in my graphic layout.

Below are a few of the brainstorms and my simplified version of what a basic layout should have.

From here i have basic understanding of the common layout of a televised football match and will start eliminating and adding any extra info and elements i think would be suitable to my football screen layout and from there i can begin sketching and planning initial layouts.
