The Extras - Research

As discussed in previous posts, im hoping to add a little something more to the screen than the basic information, to give it that added flavour and keep it more interactive and viewer friendly.
These may involve added screens (panel discussions) or non constant elements (like player stat boxes if a player does something relevant like score or get injured)

The following visuals i gathered through my research and will discuss in class this week, and gather peer review on whether they are good, bad or unnecessary ideas.

The discussion panel.

Ive noticed from any of the football matches i watched in order to understand the game and the common layouts, they normally begin, end or have a half time where the screen doesnt stay on an empty pitch, or resting players catching their breath, most of the most popular channels have a football panel that discusses that match, upcoming or recent matches and the relevant events.
Im unsure whether this is to waste time and keep the viewers occupied, or to provide 15 minutes of fame for has-beens and build up the  tension in the viewers so they are more alert and attentive as to what to expect for an outcome of the match.
I found these panels tedious to watch as it was all out of my comfort zone but perhaps an interesting extra for this project.

The opening credits.

If i aim towards a more professional product, i will likely want more than one screen, and if i do, an opening scene or credit is an obvious choice.
It would pull the whole GIF together, rather than leave it looking like a clip from a live match.
This would indeed cause more effort, but hopefully it will all be worth it in the end.
However this is where i would need to decide on whether im using a preexisting channel or making one up for the sake of this project.

Player stats.

Player stats would be a very interesting element considering the chosen sport, however this element would need further research into players, and i will need to decide just how much information i want to be in the players stat box. Should it have a name age and origin, or should it have more, like how many goals theyve scored, occupation, injuries or even fouls.
If i were to do a player stat box, i dont think i will use a second screen, i think i will likely just have the player box a non constant element that pops up or slides in when that player does something relevant and it wouldn't be obstructing the view of the game, after all i have to constantly keep in mind, the viewers want to primarily watch the match, not read stats.

Pitch layout.

I really love this idea, however at this point i dont know whether im using preexisting information or if im just going to use fake information and names. It all depends on the amount of information available to me and how real exactly i intend to make the final product. after all im still unsure whether i will be using illustrated images or take the suggested route and use live captions available online.

Running commentary panel.

Although the above is a BBC news visual, i figured the same running commentary could be used on a football screen. filled with moment to moment play names, or a brief history on a player or a particular tackle or manager or referee, information the commentator probably hasn't the time or memory for but as an added bonus to keep the viewer engaged.

....after peer review....

I discussed the previously mentioned ideas in class today, however i got a mixed response, many of the group said they were unnecessary and i should just focus on the simple design and not the content.
Others thought an extra screen or opening credit was an interesting idea, most of these people favored an opening credit or panel discussion, so im leaning more towards an opening credit screen since i myself dont find the panel discussion overly interesting.
The running commentary, although not my favourite, seemed to be an over all crowd pleaser, so i think i will go with my gut and add an extra element or two, even if that means a second screen, i dont like the running commentary as much as i originally did, but after feedback it seems popular so i think i will add it as long as it suits the rest of the final layout.
